A New Alumni Service: Webinars
In January, the UMA Alumni Association hosted its first webinar, Social Media Tips to Benefit Your Career. The webinar provided strategies to improve your online reputation and build your social media presence in a professional manner.
Our February webinar, Write Like a Professional, covered various writing topics to help you improve your professionalism during the job search and in your career.
You can watch both webinars on our YouTube channel.
Our webinars can help you freshen your skills and develop professionally, even after graduation.
The UMA Alumni Association would love to know what topics you're interested in learning about. Maybe you’re unsure of how to navigate your paycheck and fill out a W-2. Or maybe you’d like to hear about office etiquette. Take our survey and let us know what topics interest you. You never know–your idea might just be our next webinar!
We look forward to continuing this webinar service, and we hope you'll join us online for our next one!

True Blue Alum: Jacqueline Guerrero
UMA alumni who are finding success and making an impact
Our first True Blue Alum of 2017 has shown great success and strength throughout the past several years.
Driven by a desire to be a role model for her friends, family and other women, Jacqueline Guerrero, Class of 2013, has made a better life for herself and her 5-year-old son.
Jacqueline heard about UMA during a tough time in her life. She was pregnant and on maternity leave when she decided to further her education and career.
“I was doing research for an online school and UMA popped up," she says. "I saw many good reviews and when I called, I loved the way they communicated with me. It was friendly and it felt comfortable."

Staff Corner: Alumni Services
Ever wonder where your Alumni Career Services advisor finds the jobs that he or she suggests to you? UMA has a large team dedicated to finding employers and positions that are suitable for our graduates.
Darlene Hammersley, Senior Alumni Career Specialist of Business Development, is one of those team members. Darlene is responsible for matching the right employers with the right graduates, like you.
“It’s rewarding to see a student begin school, watch them graduate and know that I’m a part of the end result in finding them a career,” she says.
Darlene’s favorite part about her job is working with individual grads and mentoring them. She’s even had the opportunity to work with ground campus grads in a face-to-face setting. She recalls one entry-level graduate whom she worked with for a year. They worked together to build her skills and find the perfect position. That grad is now employed as a front desk receptionist at a doctor’s office.
Darlene greatest piece of professional advice is to “never miss an opportunity or an interview, and always be prepared.” She continues, “Always have answers prepared to open ended interview questions. You never know if an employer will decide to call you first.”
She wants alumni to believe in themselves and trust that their advisors will help with any concerns, fears or weaknesses.
An interesting fact about Darlene–she loves visiting haunted places. Other hobbies of hers include: reading, giving swimming lessons and hanging out with her beagle, Louie.
