True Blue Alum
UMA alumni who are finding success and making an impact
We’re proud to introduce True Blue Alum, a special feature series that places a spotlight on outstanding UMA alumni. This series showcases alumni succeeding in various aspects of their lives, from serving their communities to excelling in their careers to accomplishing other noteworthy achievements.
We choose one distinguished UMA alumnus per quarter. The feature is published on the website, in the alumni newsletter and on our exclusive alumni networking platform, ConnectUMA. Featured alumni receive congratulations from UMA President Derek Apanovitch, a certificate of recognition and an official school spirit item.
Know a UMA alum who is accomplishing incredible things? Let us know at email@example.com. Your nominee could be our next True Blue Alum.
Fall 2016: Leticia Barton
Our inaugural True Blue Alum is Leticia Barton, Class of 2016, who has shown determination, perseverance and incredible strength through life's toughest challenges. Leticia graduated from the Medical Billing and Coding associate degree program, and we were honored to feature her as the online student speaker at the Spring 2016 Commencement ceremony.

Staff Corner: Alumni Services
Natalie Thompson, also known as Mason, began her career at UMA more than three years ago. She works as one of two managers on the Alumni Career Services team and loves her job because of the success stories she hears every day. "My favorite aspect is realizing what an enormous impact we have not only on the graduates’ lives, but their families as well," she says.
Mason still recalls one of the first graduates she assisted in placement—a 72-year-old retired RN. "She instilled in me that it is never too late to change course and that all things are possible with determination and grit!" Mason talks to her on a regular basis and enjoys getting yearly updates about her and her daughter, who is also a UMA graduate.
In Mason’s spare time, she enjoys some of her favorite hobbies, which include kayaking, photography and listening to music. She was born in St. Augustine, FL and her favorite movie is Any Given Sunday.
If you are feeling uninspired, take her advice to get refocused. "Never lose sight of the dream that you started with, unless it’s a bigger dream!"
