Mr. Friedman has served the public interest as an attorney throughout his 46 year-career. In addition to his professional experience as an attorney, he has extensive experience in nonprofit management. Beginning in 1996 until his recent retirement, he has served as managing attorney of Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA), a federally funded nonprofit corporation that provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and families in Philadelphia. In addition to focusing on the administration of the organization, he also aided in the representation of clients with respect to matters involving family law, housing, bankruptcy and public benefits. Prior to his work with PLA, Mr. Friedman served as managing attorney for Community Legal Services of Philadelphia. Post-retirement he continues to provide legal services at PLA on a pro bono basis. Mr. Friedman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from Wayne State University.
