Ultimate Medical Academy Continues Making Strides with the American Cancer Society

TAMPA, Fla., October 30, 2017– This past weekend, Ultimate Medical Academy joined forces with the American Cancer Society (ACS) at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. The nonprofit education institution was a Silver Sponsor of the event on Saturday, Oct. 28 and cheered on one of their own, Scott Sarrett, Ultimate Medical Academy vice president of Learner Services, as he participated in the ACA’s Real Men Wear Pink fundraising campaign.

For the fourth consecutive year, Ultimate Medical Academy sponsored this premier event in Hillsborough County, and this year also joined the Real Men Wear Pink campaign. Each year, the school encourages staff members to donate to this worthy cause through the ACA’s various initiatives during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since 2014, Ultimate Medical Academy has raised and donated more than $25,000 to the cause.

“Fighting breast and other cancer is a cause near and dear to so many people and Ultimate Medical Academy is proud to walk side by side with survivors and fighters,” said Derek Apanovitch, president of Ultimate Medical Academy. “With Making Strides, no one walks alone. It’s important to us that we can support our community and a meaningful cause by raising funds for cancer research, patient support, prevention and early detection.”

In addition to Ultimate Medical Academy’s support of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Tampa, the institution’s Clearwater campus supports Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Pinellas County.

The funds raised through Ultimate Medical Academy and Sarrett’s Real Men Wear Pink fundraiser go toward the overall fundraising amount for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which raised more than $550,000.

“I am honored to have joined other community and business leaders as one of the Real Men Wear Pink candidates this year as we worked to raise awareness and funds in the fight against this deadly disease,” Sarrett noted. “I know that all of the Real Men are making a difference and will continue to have a meaningful impact on the community and those affected by cancer.”

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates survivors and raises awareness and funds to help save lives. With money raised, Making Strides funds research, provides information and support, and helps reduce the risk of breast cancer and early detection when it’s most treatable.

Ultimate Medical Academy’s involvement with the ACS and their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is one of the many service projects and outreach initiatives the institution participates in each year.
