Our History

UMA was founded in Clearwater, Florida as Ultimate Learning Center, Inc.

UMA launched online allied healthcare courses to students throughout the U.S.

Clinical and Patient Educators Association (CPEA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, acquired UMA.

UMA was founded in 1994 in Clearwater, Florida as Ultimate Learning Center, Inc., a nonprofit educational institution serving the Tampa Bay community’s need for trained nursing assistants and other healthcare professionals.

Over time, we recognized the growing need for trained professionals in other healthcare specialties and employers’ needs for multi-skilled staff, so the institution began to offer a wide range of programs focused on developing allied healthcare professionals. In 2009, UMA launched online allied healthcare courses to students throughout the U.S.

Following the launch of its online programs, UMA added a continuing medical education (CME) division that now also includes Littleton, Colorado-based Global Education Group, New York City-based Med Learning Group, and Miami-based Complete Conference Management. These divisions create innovative and award-winning programming to maximize the learner experience and, ultimately, improve patient outcomes.

In 2015, Clinical and Patient Educators Association (CPEA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, acquired UMA. CPEA focuses on developing quality, innovative education for healthcare practitioners and the patient communities they serve.

UMA is led by Thomas Rametta, President, and governed by a board of trustees comprised of individuals with significant experience in education, medicine, nonprofits, law, information technology, and finance. The Board includes Chair Darlyne Bailey, Ph.D.; Vice Chair Theodore Polin; Stephen Burghardt, Ph.D.; Hugh Campbell; Christopher Hawk, M.D.; Sheila McDevitt; Karen Mincey; Thomas Rametta; and Dr. Saundra Wall-Williams.
