Ultimate Medical Academy Raises More than $27,000 for the 29th Annual All Children’s Hospital Telethon

Tampa, Fla., July 24, 2012 – On June 3, 43 dedicated Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) employees got up early on a Sunday morning to help raise funds for one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation at the 29th Annual All Children’s Hospital Telethon.

“We’re super excited to have you here for your first telethon,” said telethon host Rod Carter as the audience applauded.

Wearing big smiles and UMA Cares T-Shirts, several rows of UMA volunteers manned the phones, taking pledges and speaking to donors.

During the telethon, Linda Weldon, UMA Vice President of Academic Affairs, Accreditation and Community Relations, presented a check from the school for $27,040. “This check represents a combined effort of UMA staff, students and faculty, as well as matching funds from our corporate office,” explained Weldon.

The 2012 All Children’s Hospital Telethon recorded a resounding success in difficult economic times, raising a grand total of $3,745,402 for the region’s referral center for specialized pediatric care. The telethon was broadcast live from the All Children’s Education and Conference Center.

“We are very proud to support All Children’s Hospital,” said Weldon. “The fact that no child in need of medical care is ever turned away due to inability to pay really resonated with us. We were also impressed with the hospital’s association with Johns Hopkins Medicine, one of the world’s leading healthcare institutions.”

Part of UMA’s $27,040 donation to All Children’s Hospital was collected at an event for UMA employees that took place on March 27 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. During this event, a raffle was held that selected 20 employees to kick field goals to raise money for All Children’s Hospital. The enthusiastic participants proved their athletic ability, with each successfully completed field goal garnering $500 each to be donated to the hospital fund.

Stephanie Hall, Director of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, said, “As an institution of medical education, UMA’s generous gift of $27,040 helped our 29th Annual All Children’s Hospital Telethon toteboard total reach $3,745,402. The telethon donations will go toward our new ten-storyhospital and its adjacent Outpatient Care Center. Our new hospital is equipped with individual patient rooms and state-of-the-art technology to provide ‘little miracles’ with the specialized care they need every day.”

Ultimate Medical Academy focuses exclusively on offering on-campus and online healthcare education and training degree and diploma programs that help students in Florida and around the nation pursue exciting opportunities in today’s growing healthcare industry. UMA’s mission is to promote health and wellness in the communities it serves and support philanthropic causes that help health-related organizations provide exceptional patient care.

UMA students, as well as faculty and staff, often participate in fundraising efforts that positively impact the medical community. “We don’t just teach our students practical skills and knowledge in their courses, but that civic responsibility and community service are important, too,” said Weldon.
