Ultimate Medical Academy Signs Agreement with Excelsior College
February 13, 2017, Tampa, FL – Ultimate Medical Academy, a nonprofit educational healthcare institution, has reached an agreement with Excelsior College that will enable UMA graduates to advance their education at the regionally accredited, nonprofit online college based in Albany, NY.
“We’re pleased to reach this agreement with Excelsior,” Derek Apanovitch, UMA president, said. “This partnership represents yet another valuable program UMA is offering to support successful student outcomes. It gives our graduates the opportunity to build on the associate degrees they’ve earned to jump start their pursuit of undergraduate and graduate degrees that will make them even more qualified for careers in healthcare.”
Respected for innovative dedication to adult learners, Excelsior College has agreed to admit qualified UMA graduates and staff. To be eligible under the agreement, UMA participants must have an associate degree and a certain minimum GPA. In addition, the agreement allows UMA participants to receive academic credits at Excelsior for up to 90 hours of previous qualifying higher education coursework. Transfer Guides showing how UMA courses articulate into degrees at Excelsior are available at the Excelsior/UMA partner webpage.
“Excelsior College was founded more than four decades ago on an essential public purpose – to help adults earn a college degree,” Excelsior College President Jim Baldwin said. “This agreement creates an affordable pathway for UMA graduates to maximize their prior learning, earn an advanced credential, and develop the workplace skills they will need to succeed in their careers.”
UMA and Excelsior share a deep focus on student services and alumni support. Prior to enrolling at Excelsior, UMA participants can take advantage of a 1:1 advising session to discuss their specific educational and career goals. Potential students can then work with an Excelsior student support team to learn how their courses transfer, as well as about available financial aid and scholarships. Excelsior also offers an online library in partnership with Sheridan Libraries of the Johns Hopkins University, 24/7 online tutoring, and an online writing lab. Participants also receive a 10-hour course at no extra charge to familiarize them with Excelsior’s online college courses and requirements.
Closer to graduation, UMA and Excelsior both have dedicated Career Services staff to help students with résumés and cover letters and to provide students and graduates with assistance in finding employment in their field. This includes a job search database, nationwide employer contacts and alumni networks.
