My name is Jackie and I live in the southeast. I am going back to school after being out of high school for 29 years. I always wanted to go back to school to further my career in healthcare. I started my healthcare career 13-years-ago when the factory I was working closed its doors. I became a CNA/CMT as well as a restorative therapy aide. My kids were young when all of this happened and once they were grown, I decided now was the time for me. I chose healthcare management mainly because I have been doing the heavy physical lifting I can’t physically do it anymore, so I chose healthcare management. I choose UMA as the school I wanted to enroll in because the support staff is amazing and has really helped me get settled and going. They also calmed me when I was positive I couldn’t do this and fail out of school. UMA offers online classes, which works with my schedule and I can work at my own pace. For me, being a student at UMA is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling goals I ever achieved. This wasn’t an easy decision for me as I thought I’ll never be able to graduate school, I was never the best student in high school. By enrolling in UMA, I have succeeded more than I ever thought possible and this school has given me the self-esteem I was desperately missing. Now I know and feel that I can accomplish anything, this feeling is so priceless and I couldn’t ever be able to put a price tag on my self-esteem and I have UMA and myself to thank for that. The fact that I started off on the dean’s list and am able to maintain my GPA, reduces me to tears (happy ones of course). I am so glad and proud I choose to attend this wonderful school, they are available anytime I need them whether its a good talking to that will raise my confidence, or help with a homework question. I have always thought I would ever amount to much in life, in high school that is what I was always told. As strange as it sounds, the staff at UMA are a driving force in me succeeding as well as family and friends. If anyone were to ask me, “should I enroll in UMA?” I would most definitely tell them, “Yes and that it would be the best thing you could do for yourself and you won’t regret it.”
