My name is Julio and in the beginning of my journey at UMA, I was employed by the Boys and Girls Club. I worked doing after school care during the school year and for the summer I was a camp counselor. I worked there for 2 and half years then, I realized that I am in the field of human services working with children and I enjoy it very much. About a month ago, I realized that I wasn’t really working in the correct organization to be able to move up due to upper management. I made a big change for myself and had to move on. I looked around and gave it a shot and applied at the YMCA. I have moved on and started my new job working with the YMCA, and I must say I do enjoy it very much. In these past 2 years, it been a huge roller coaster from having reconstructive jaw surgery to losing a family member at at the age of 20. I chose UMA because it fit with my schedule and it balanced out with my work time. I was able to do my classes in the morning and work in the afternoon. They really cared about my academic success. They are there every step of the way and always there when I needed help. I am a proud UMA graduate. Thank you for everything.
