I had never attended college for a few reasons. 1- I knew my parents couldn’t afford it and we didn’t know anything about grants, scholarships and such. 2- I was interested in too many different career prospects and couldn’t narrow it down so that money wasn’t wasted. 3- I was sick of school by the time I graduated high school. I just needed a break. Well, life happened and I got married, had 2 children, and although I was mostly a stay at home mother and homemaker, I did have a few jobs along the way. The job that I enjoyed the most, however, was for a pediatric neurologist’s office where I learned on-the-job about insurance filing and the whole claims process ON MY OWN. I had been away from the medical field for 10 years and received a call from UMA about starting an education with them online. I was hesitant because now I was 44 years old, and was I really going to go for a diploma in a profession I hadn’t had anything to do with for 10 years? I decided to go for it very hesitantly. I was scared of the cost. I was scared I wouldn’t be a good student. But here I am, 2 months from graduating and I have been an A student and two time Dean’s List recipient. I KNEW I could have done better in high school. UMA has encouraged me the whole way. I have been glad that I made the decision to just go for it and get my diploma in Medical Office Billing and Coding. Now I’ll be able to get a job anywhere because I’ll have my certification!
