Education and Women’s and Family Advocate, Former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift, to Keynote Ultimate Medical Academy’s Fall Commencement

TAMPA, Fla. August 1, 2018 – Education and women’s and family advocate, former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift, will deliver the commencement address at Ultimate Medical Academy’s Fall Commencement (#UMAgrad) to almost 600 graduates on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The morning ceremony at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida will also be live-streamed to the almost 3,800 UMA graduates eligible to graduate between May 7 and October 28, 2018 and their friends, and family members across the nation.

“I am honored to be the keynote speaker at Ultimate Medical Academy’s Fall Commencement,” Governor Swift said. “Our country is facing a critical challenge providing practical post-secondary education to students who have not previously experienced success in our traditional higher education system. UMA is committed to meeting the needs of these students with innovative online education and wrap-around support services to complete their education and start their careers in healthcare. In doing so, we are also helping to fill the healthcare skills gap.”

After joining the UMA Board of Directors in October 2016, Governor Swift became Executive Chair in January 2018. She has brought her expertise in education and learning technology, gained from both her public and private sector positions, to UMA, helping to realize the nonprofit healthcare educational institution’s vision to be a leader in providing successful career outcomes for UMA students through a culture of innovation, commitment, and service.

Governor Swift served for 15 years in Massachusetts state government, including as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, and as a state senator.

She also serves on the boards of several organizations and has a background working with innovative educational providers. She was CEO of Middlebury Interactive Languages from July 2011 to March 2017. Governor Swift received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College and holds several honorary doctorate degrees. She served for more than a decade as a distinguished visiting lecturer in Leadership Studies at Williams College.

Governor Swift speaks professionally on women’s leadership, education improvement, and work-family integration. She and her husband Chuck are the proud parents of three daughters, Elizabeth, Lauren, and Sarah.
