Ultimate Medical Academy to Fight Local Hunger Through Feeding Tampa Bay
November 01, 2016 — With the mission of making a difference in their community, Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) staff will help fight local hunger in the Tampa Bay area with Feeding Tampa Bay on November 5, 2016.
On that day, dozens of UMA volunteers will gather at the Feeding Tampa Bay Distribution Center from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to help sort food donations, box produce for families and pack bags of groceries for children in need. These efforts will help get more food directly on the tables of local hungry families.
“Our students, staff and leadership are passionate about giving back to our local community, and we are expecting a great turnout for Feeding Tampa Bay,” said Beth Garland, Senior Vice President of Strategic Operations at UMA. “Although our institution’s primary focus is education, we truly embrace this type of service as it is a natural extension of our school’s mission to improve lives.”
Feeding Tampa Bay is part of Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks that fights to end hunger through their food pantries and meal programs. The non-profit organization helps provide food to more than 46 million Americans each year. Recently, Feeding America donated two million pounds of food to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew.
“It’s certainly inspiring to see so many at Ultimate Medical Academy come together to help those who are in need,” said Dan Soschin, the executive overseeing philanthropic initiatives at UMA. “Whether it’s fighting hunger, helping domestic violence survivors, or donating blood, our volunteers always step up. This year, I’m proud to say that UMA staff has volunteered time, food and financial resources to help address hunger locally. This includes our Pack-A-Snack program, conducting food drives, and volunteering at wonderful organizations such as Feeding Tampa Bay.”
UMA’s involvement with Feeding Tampa Bay is one of the many service projects and outreach initiatives the school participates in each year. For more details about UMA’s involvement in the community, visit our Community Outreach page.
