Ultimate Medical Academy Highlights Maryland Graduate Who Continues Achieving Her Healthcare Career Goals

TAMPA, Fla., September 20, 2017– Ultimate Medical Academy is proud to highlight Sabrina Leftwich, a resident of Oxon Hill, Maryland, and a graduate of the nonprofit educational institution’s Medical Billing & Coding Associate degree program. Leftwich was already working in healthcare as a medical assistant when her husband inspired her to go back and get her Associate degree.

“My husband inspired me to go back to school because he just graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management,” Leftwich said. “I saw how hard he worked and I wanted to do that too.”

At Ultimate Medical Academy, Leftwich maintained a 4.0 GPA, was on the Dean’s List every semester and graduated with Honors. While juggling a full-time job where she worked 10-12 hour shifts, Leftwich completed her degree programs in the evenings and during lunch breaks. With the online school’s flexibility and her Ultimate Medical Academy advisors and husband cheering her on, she was successful on her higher education journey.

“My experience was great,” Leftwich said. “I am very happy I chose [Ultimate Medical Academy]. I did face the challenge of online classes, but my instructors were very helpful. If I needed help I could email, text, or call, which I did because I consider myself to be an overachiever. I don’t like to leave stuff [incomplete] and want to be sure I’m on the right path.”

Leftwich credits Ultimate Medical Academy’s Career Services department with helping her refine her résumé and interview skills. While she was offered a new job with a different company, Leftwich decided to stay in her current medical assistant position at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a not-for-profit, 912-bed academic medical center in the heart of the nation’s capital that serves as referral center and the central hub for the region’s most advanced acute medical care. Since obtaining her Associate degree, Leftwich has been given more responsibility and continues to grow at MedStar.

“I’m so very happy that I went to [Ultimate Medical Academy] because I’m at another level at my job,” Leftwich noted. “I have been offered jobs in [medical] billing and coding and the sky’s the limit. I’m so proud of myself. I’m thinking of going back to [Ultimate Medical Academy] for a Healthcare Management degree.”

Leftwich is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology at Capella University. Upon completion, she has plans to earn her master’s degree.

Ultimate Medical Academy President Derek Apanovitch said, “Stories like Sabrina’s are what inspire us to do as much as we can for our students. We offer a wide variety of student services and alumni career resources to ensure that our graduates are on a pathway to success during and after attending Ultimate Medical Academy. We want them to succeed at school and in their new careers in healthcare.”
