Application Process

Each military branch has its own tuition assistance application form and procedures. To find out how to get started, visit your local installation education center, a virtual education center, or click on the following links for each service branch:

Prior to your course enrollment, you may be required to develop an educational plan or complete tuition assistance orientation. Be sure to keep the following information in mind when applying:

  • Military tuition assistance may only be used to pursue degree programs two- or four-year institutions in the United States that are regionally or nationally accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S Department of Education. A quick way to check the accreditation of a school is by visiting the Department of Education website.
  • Your service’s education center must approve your military tuition assistance before you enroll in a course or program.

Spouses & Dependents of Military

MyCAA

MyCAA provides:

  • Training and Education Financial Assistance
  • Maximum education benefit of $4,000

MyCAA provides a maximum education benefit of $4,000 with an annual fiscal year cap of $2,000 to assist eligible military spouses who need professional credentials to meet their portable career goals. Annual cap waivers are available for licensure and certified programs if there is an upfront tuition cost that exceeds $2,000 (up to the maximum education benefit of $4,000).

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree-granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed either the annual maximum cap for private institutions or the resident tuition and fees for a public institution.

The institution can contribute up to 50 percent of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. To receive the Yellow Ribbon Program benefits you must be enrolled in an approved program offered by an institution of higher learning that participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Dependents’ Educational Assistance

The Dependents' Educational Assistance program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

U.S. DoD Military Tuition Assistance

There are two groups of benefit options from which to choose. We can help you pick which one best fits your situation.

Using Transfer of Eligibility
  • Active-duty service members providing transfer of benefits must contact the Department of Defense to begin the process or visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website for additional instructions.
  • Once the active duty service member transfers eligibility, submit a copy of the Transfer Entitlement Benefits (TEB) approval to your UMA Student Finance advisor. Complete the VONAPP (Form 22-1990 or form 22-1990E).
  • Documents Needed:
    • Copy of Transfer Entitlement Benefits
    • Copy of completed VONAPP application (form 22-1990E or 22-5490 or form 22-1990E if Active Duty)
    • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility/Services member’s DD214
Use Chapter 35

Only use if you are receiving benefits from a veteran who is deceased or has 100% service-related disability). Complete the VONAPP (form 22-5490).

  • Submit a copy of your completed VONAPP application to your UMA Student Finance advisor.
  • Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (received 4-6 weeks after VONAPP approval) to your UMA Student Finance advisor.
  • Documents Needed:
    • Copy of approval letter
    • Copy of completed VONAPP application (form 22-1990E or 22-5490 or form 22-1990E if Active Duty)
    • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility/Services member’s DD214

The Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) is pleased to offer $1000 scholarships each year to United States Service members (active duty/veterans) and spouses of Service members who are working towards the completion of higher education degrees. Learn More ▸

Financial Aid Process

To get started, follow these five steps:

  1. Connect with a Student Finance representative by calling 813-605-8512 or emailing militaryaffairs@ultimatemedical.edu.
  2. Our representative will walk you through beginning the Federal Student Aid process on the Federal Student Aid website. We’re with you every step of the way.
  3. Create a Federal Student Aid ID. This is an electronic signature to sign the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and federal education loan promissory notes.
  4. Complete the FAFSA application. This will be important in finding out what type of assistance you are eligible for.
  5. Depending on the results of the FAFSA application, additional documents may be required. If needed, we can guide you through that process as well.
