Never Too Old to Learn: Inspired by Family, Empowered by UMA

I was on Tik Tok with my niece who was about ten years old. I came across the school and I said, ‘Medical Billing and Coding! I used to do some coding!’ She was like, “Uncle Bernie, you should go to school and do that.’ I was like, ‘Uncle Bernie is a little too old to do that now.’ She said, ‘No, you can do it. I know you can because you’re smart like me.’ So, I said I would give it a shot just because she wanted me to. And that’s why I went.

I like the online part because I also work doing patient registration and I was able to maneuver through my schedule and get the classes done. I have worked in healthcare most of my life, and I am excited about putting what I learned in school to work.

I would say you are never too old to do anything. My niece put that in my head, and I had heard people say it, but when she said it, it hit different. I would tell anybody who thinks they can’t do it that it can be done. You should come to UMA to do it though. It’s the best school!
