How to Create Your Pharmacy Technician Resume, Including Examples and Tips
Are you ready to graduate from pharmacy technician training but could use a little help creating your resume? Or have you been in a pharm tech role for years, want to find a new employer, and your old resume needs an update? No matter why you require a pharmacy technician resume, Ultimate Medical Academy is here to help. This begins with knowing how to share your information in this important job search document.
Information to Include in Your Pharmacy Technician Resume
Employers look at a variety of things when considering a pharmacy tech resume. Including the following sections can provide the information they seek.
Personal and contact information
Potential employers need to know who you are, as well as how to contact you should they decide to advance you to the next step: a job interview. Your personal and contact information is supplied in the header section at the top of the resume, and includes your:
- First name, middle initial, and last name
- Mailing address
- Phone number
- Email address
You may also supply a link to your LinkedIn profile in this section if you have one. If you also have the certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) credential, add it after your name so it stands out.
Career objective or summary
This section is your opportunity to share information about your pharmacy technician career path. If you’re new to the field, title this section “Career Objective” and include 1-2 sentences about your career goals and/or goals of employment. If you have experience as a pharmacy tech, title this section “Career Summary,” and give a short snippet of the qualifications that make you a good fit for the open role.
Pharmacy technician skills
Working as a pharmacy technician requires certain skill sets. Adding a bulleted list of your pharmacy tech skills tells the potential employer you know how to do the job. Don’t forget to mention the soft skills you have that are helpful in this role. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that these qualities include being detail-oriented and having good listening, organizational, and math skills.1
Certainly, you can’t list every one of your skills or your resume would be too long. Instead, pay close attention to the pharmacy technician job description when considering which skills to include. If the employer mentions wanting a particular skill and you have it, be sure to include it.
Pharmacy technician certifications and licenses
You need a pharmacy technician certification to work in some states, and some employers require or prefer this credential.1 Licensing might also be required. If you have either (or both), provide this information clearly on your pharm tech resume. This tells the employer you meet the requirements. (Check with your state’s governing body to learn about your local requirements.)
Pharmacy technician education and training
If you’ve completed a pharmacy technician training program, let the employer know. Give the name of the institution you attended, the degree or diploma earned, and the month and year you graduated. Indeed Career Guide adds that you should generally only provide your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) on your resume if you graduated within the past three years or if your CGPA was a 3.5 or higher.2
Relevant experience
This is an important section on your pharmacy tech resume because it tells the employer what experiences you’ve had to prepare you for the open role. This includes all previous pharmacy technician experience.
But how do you create a resume for a pharmacy technician with no experience? List jobs you’ve held with transferable skills. Maybe you worked a retail job that involved monitoring stock. This would be important because pharm techs are sometimes tasked with inventory control. Also, list any relevant experience gained during an externship or while volunteering.

Additional Pharmacy Technician Resume Tips
Here are a few additional tips to help make your pharmacy technician resume shine:
- Use a professional email address. Let the prospective employer know you’re a serious candidate by providing a professional email address. Using your full name (Chris.Jones1234@gmail.com) or first initial and last name (C.Jones1234@gmail.com) are two options to consider.
- Keep your pharmacy technician resume file name professional too. When saving your resume, use your full name and “resume” (Chris_Jones_Resume or Chris-Jones-Resume) to clearly identify the file’s contents.
- Pay attention to your resume’s format. To help keep your pharmacy technician resume easy to scan, leave some white space, clearly name each section, and use bullet points when appropriate.
- Avoid the use of graphics. While graphics can make your resume look nice, they also make it harder for an applicant tracking system (ATS) to read your information.3 Businesses use ATS software to help quickly identify resumes with the required qualifications. It would be a shame to not make it to the next step because your graphics got in the way.
