Guiding Nontraditional Learners Toward Confidence and Career

Laura L.

Teaching in the Healthcare Management program at Ultimate Medical Academy for the past eight years has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me. As a former online student myself, I understand firsthand how much an instructor can influence a student’s journey. That’s why I’m passionate about working with nontraditional learners—helping them reach their goals and navigate their educational paths with confidence. UMA stands out from other institutions I’ve taught at because it’s truly student-centered. Every team here is focused on equipping students with the skills they need to succeed professionally, and that shared commitment makes a real difference.

My days are filled with student messages, grading, and outreach. I prioritize responding to students first, then dive into grading and staying active in discussion forums, which are key spaces for personalized instruction. I make it a point to check in regularly, especially with students facing challenges, and I share resources like UMA’s Guidance Center to ensure they feel supported both academically and personally. I want my students to know they’re not alone and that someone is rooting for them. That connection—being able to guide, encourage, and uplift—is what keeps me motivated every day.
